Accountability
In the future, the buck never stops. Everybody is just following orders, everything has its own inertia and moves forward of its own volition. If anyone ever accepted responsibility, it would require time and resources to give the appearance of change, of preventative measures or reparations. In reality no such things would be done, so by mutual assent such pomp has been done away with. It is understood that whatever replacement would be indistinguishable from the antecedent; nobody suffers but those who have already suffered for the time and effort necessitated by endless resignations and replacements, and how could they be held accountable in any case? They rule us at our behest; we might as well continuously extract our fingernails and toenails expecting superior replacements to grow in. They are us; and if we deceive ourselves who is to blame? And who is to benefit from punishment, or even admittance of wrongdoing? Who is to gain even from awareness of wrongdoing? And who are we to question their wisdom and intentions? They rule us at our behest; and if they silence us, aren’t we really silencing ourselves? And if they disregard our concerns, isn’t that the discretion that comes as a result of wisdom, experience and success?
Who, then, should safeguard the best interests of us? Those that have failed in their attempts to dominate our opinions and even to excel at the functions our society most values? If we allow them to influence us, they’ve won. In what way should they be held accountable for being the failures they are, for continually causing such distractions and delays, forcing compromises and lip-service to undeserved respect, standing in the way of their own best interests?
Perhaps by having their worthless voices silenced.
